About the ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATURE ASSOCIATION, INC.


MISSION STATEMENT

The Rocky Mountain Nature Association promotes the understanding of Rocky Mountain National Park and similar public lands through interpretive or educational publications and programs; advances stewardship through philanthropy for Rocky Mountain National Park and similar public lands; protects, restores, maintains and preserves land and historic sites in Rocky Mountain National Park and elsewhere in the Rocky Mountain West, and may, in furtherance of such mission, conduct any lawful activity.

HISTORY

     1931: RMNA is founded in Estes Park, Colorado by local citizens and Rocky Mountain National Park’s Chief Naturalist.

     1955: RMNA was incorporated under the laws of the State of Colorado.

     1969: The organization received its 501(c)(3) IRS tax-exempt status. Federal Tax ID# 84-0472090.

     2005: The Revised Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws that govern RMNA, are both revised and adopted.

     Agreements with agencies of the U.S. Government and State of Colorado also guide the organization.

     Today: RMNA is governed by a Board of Directors, including a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. The Board
     sets policy, approves annual budgets, and supervises the Executive Director. RMNA’s primary agent is its Executive Director.
     


ACTIVITIES

RMNA is one of the oldest cooperating associations working with the National Park Service. The organization produces educational publications, offers seminars, supports research, and provides aid and philanthropic support to Rocky Mountain National Park and our other public lands partners.

The Rocky Mountain Nature Association:

      Develops award-winning interpretive publications that offer natural and cultural history education about RMNA’s public lands partners.

     Operates interpretive sales at partner locations throughout Colorado and Wyoming, returning 12% of revenue to the host public land site as direct aid.

     Conducts Rocky Mountain Field Seminars, which provides hand-on learning experiences for people who desire in-depth contact with recognized experts in diverse environmental fields.

     Through the endowed Justine and Leslie Fidel Bailey Fellowship, supports graduate-level research at Rocky Mountain National Park that is accessible to the public.

     Runs the American Conservation Corps, offering 24 college students the chance to explore conservation careers by completing a summer of on-the-ground work and education in Rocky Mountain National Park and the Arapaho-Roosevelt National Forest.

     Offers Membership in the organization, which supports RMNA’s overall efforts and keeps people connected to the organization and its partners.

     Manages the Rocky Mountain National Park Fund, (formerly the Rocky Mountain National Park Associates) which provides philanthropic support for projects in Rocky Mountain National Park. Priority areas include: Land Protection, Capital Construction, Historical Preservation, Trails, and Education, including the Next Generation Fund.
