American Conservation Corps Fund
The American Conservation Corps provides a unique experience for college students interested in natural resource conservation. For ten weeks, ACC crews work side by side with park and forest service teams in Rocky Mountain National Park and USDA National Forests building and maintaining trails, restoring historic buildings, and learning from expert RMNP researchers.
Originally established through a grant from the Daniels Fund, the goal of the ACC is to expose Daniels scholars and other students in need of financial assistance to rigorous service work while providing a positive educational experience in natural resource conservation. By introducing ACC crew members to experiences and job opportunities with the National Park Service and National Forest Service, RMNA hopes to cultivate the conservationists of tomorrow. For three years the ACC was comprised of one crew that worked in Rocky Mountain National Park. In 2006, a second crew was added to work in the National Forests. In 2007, we are recruiting for an unprecedented three crews. Each crew will have five students and one crew leader. This program has proved to be a successful way of introducing college students to hands-on conservation. The ACC is dependent on grants and donations. Funds raised go to equipment and supplies for crew members, wages, and hiring and recruitment costs. With three crews protecting Colorado's public land this year, the ACC needs community support more than ever. Be a part of the ACC team's conservation efforts by making a financial contribution today. |
