Lily Lake Nature Hunt: A Virtual Geocache Adventure

Fee:  $10 per child ages 9-13                                          

Location:  Lily Lake

Take Hwy. 7 heading south out of Estes Park.  Approximately 5 miles out of town and across from the Baldpate Inn is Lily Lake.  Meet the instructor by the restrooms near the parking lot on the west side of the road.

 

Time:  9:30 AM to Noon

           

Course Description: 

Using a GPS unit, discover the natural treasures along the Lily Lake trail. Follow the clues left in nature to uncover the hidden mysteries that are located in this subalpine ecosystem.  This class is designed for kids and parents who want to spend time in Rocky Mountain National Park learning about nature while enjoying the adventure and fun of practicing a new skill. (This class is recommended for first-time geocachers.)

 

Course Level II: 

Short-distance walks through the day on primarily level terrain

 

Tentative Course Schedule:

  9:30AM

Meet and greet            .

  9:40 AM

Getting to know your GPS unit

10:00 AM

Begin the hunt.

10:30 AM       

Snack break

11:10 – Noon

Continue hunt.

 

What to Bring:

·        Snacks and Water

·        Daypack

·        Rain and/or foul weather gear

·        Camera

·        Sunscreen

·        Good walking shoes or boots (no flip-flops)

·        A sense of adventure!
